In 1663, the Dutch took the fort from the Portuguese and sold it to Ali Raja of Kannur, according to legend. The fort has a spectacular view of Mappila Bay and Dharmadom Island. Paithalmala

Arakkal Museum
The Arakkal Museum is dedicated to the Arakkal family, Kerala’s only Muslim royal line. The matriarch of the Arakkal family was referred to as ‘Arakkal Beevi,’ and the king was referred to as ‘Ali Raja.’ There are several stories related to the Arakkal dynasty, but one that is particularly popular among the locals is that of Ali saving the daughter of Chirakkal Raja in exchange for him marrying his daughter to a poor servant bound by a peculiar local custom.
Payyambalam Beach
The Payyambalam beach, located just 2 kilometers from Kannur town, is a large stretch of golden sand with a garden on one side. Locals and tourists alike frequent this popular hangout spot. This beach is long, wide, and stretches over 4 kilometers. Kerala Tourism offers a variety of activities at Payyambalam Beach, including water skiing, parasailing, and a boat trip. On one side of the beach, there is also a beach garden on top of the cliff, which serves as a natural border.
