India is a country rich in religious diversity, embracing cultures from all over the world. We take pride in showcasing the beauty of our own country as well as that of others. When it comes to architecture, we have a unique talent for recreating and honoring different cultures and countries right here in India.
We always strive to do justice to the traditions and cultures that we represent in our creations. The Japanese Garden in Chandigarh is a shining example of how we have beautifully brought a completely different culture to life, allowing visitors to have an authentic experience of Japan and its stunning architecture. It is an extraordinary place that exudes serenity and peace, making Japanese visitors feel right at home.
Located in Sector 31 of the union territory of Chandigarh, the Japanese Garden was built in 2014 and covers an expansive 13 acres of land. The Indian government envisioned this place as a haven of peace amidst a bustling city, a sanctuary where people can find moments of tranquility and solace. The garden consists of two phases, with the first one being inaugurated on November 7, 2014, and the second one added in 2016. These two phases are connected by a tunnel adorned with beautiful paintings depicting Japanese culture. The second phase primarily caters to children, featuring numerous swings and sculptures.
The Japanese Garden has been meticulously designed as a landscape that captures the essence of Japanese architecture and culture. Within its grounds, you will find a Pagoda Tower, a five-story structure representing the elements of Wind, Sky, Earth, Fire, and Water. There is also a Buddha statue, four water bodies adorned with wooden bridges, fountains, a meditation hut, a Ying Yang symbol, handmade paintings, and intricately crafted stone lions. The entire garden is lovingly maintained by the people of Chandigarh.
