History of Bird Aviary Chandigarh
The Department of Forest & Wildlife, UT Chandigarh has developed the Chandigarh Bird Park at Nagar Van, located behind Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. The park aims to create awareness among the general public, especially young minds, about bird conservation and nature education. The inauguration of the Chd Bird Park took place on 16th November 2021, with Smt. Savita Kovind, Hon’ble First Lady of India, doing the honors.
The Chandigarh Bird Park has been specifically created to house exotic birds commonly bred in India. It provides ample space for each bird, with a flying height of 58 feet and a total ground area of approximately 200×150 feet for terrestrial and aquatic birds. The park’s design incorporates thousands of plants of varying canopies, creating an ideal habitat that offers food and shelter for the birds, allowing them to fly and breed freely.
Notably, the structure of the aviary Bird Park is believed to be the tallest of its kind in the country within the aviary domain.
