Sukhna Lake is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Chandigarh. Sukhna was made along with the rock garden in 1958. It is a reservoir located at the foothills of the Himalayas.
Lake is open every day, and visitors can visit the lake from 5 a.m.; to 9 p.m. Sukhna is an excellent site for residents and visitors. People from every age. Youngsters come here to do exercise, running and cycling. Children come here to play while older people come for gentle walking. There is a separate running track on the right side of the main path. You can do cycling too, as there is a separate cycling route built along Sukhna.
A small tower is just a few steps ahead of the front gate, near the starting point of the running track. There is an excellent view of the whole lake and golf course from this tower.
You can sit near the stairs of Sukhna lake too and enjoy the view. There are five stair locations on the backside of the lake. You can directly reach the middle or end of the lake from these stairs.
Surprisingly, there is a suicide tower built on Sukhna lake. The tower was built to measure the lake’s water level, but there have been several suicide cases on this tower. To put these suicides on halt, the administration has closed this tower.
There is a variety of street food near the front gate of Sukhna. Along with this, a CITCO Cafeteria and indoor restaurant serve a variety of cuisines. You can also shop in a small souvenir shop present inside the Cafeteria.
There is a small corner for children near the cafeteria; kids can enjoy rides here. If you are a fan of art, you should get your handmade sketch by professional Skechers here.
Several portrait artists sit near the front gate. They make live sketches with a price range from 200 to 500 rupees. There is a beautiful peepal tree at Sukhna Lake that was present here long before Chandigarh was designed.
During the winters, Sukhna is an attraction point for bird lovers. The lake is home to many migratory birds from distant places like Europe, China, Japan, Siberia and Central Asia. You can see Wood Sandpiper; White-tailed Lapwing, Yellow wattled Lapwing, Spotted Red Shank, and many more.
Different food, book festivals are also arranged by the Chandigarh administration from time to time. Clubs arrange yoga camps, mini-marathons, different camps due to which the lake always remains crowded with people. Toward the other end of Sukhna lake, there is a beautiful garden named BUDHA PEACE PARK. Due to its peaceful environment, it is also called “.Buddha peace park”.
Your trip to Sukhna is incomplete without visiting the garden. However, it’s pretty hard to reach here from the front gate on foot, although the experience is worth it. You can directly reach here by mini E – rickshaws or by road that marks the whole Sukhna Lake.
