Wellington Zoo is a not for profit charitable trust, and is New Zealand’s first Zoo. The Zoo is managed by the trust on behalf of the Wellington City Council. It is the world’s first zoo that is certified Toitū carboNZero. Zoo is a 13-hectare (32-acre) zoo in the green belt of Wellington, New Zealand.

How to Plan your Day at Wellington Zoo?

The Wellington Zoo timings are 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, and is open for the whole year except Christmas Day.

The Zoo offers close encounters with the animals, Behind the Scenes and Talk Times. You can directly book these from the Wellington Zoo official website (according to the dates suitable to you)

Picnic tables are placed at different locations in the zoo and if you don’t whish to bring your own food then you can enjoy food at the Rex Tremendous or at the Banana Bar, you will find a variety of food and drinks here.

In the Zoo shop you can shop for sustainable and local products apart from this zoo offers a collection of beautiful soft toys for animals that you can keep as a memento.

Zoo Parking and Other Details

  • Limited Free Car Parking: The Zoo offers limited free car parking that is on first come first serve basis.
  • Newtown Park car park: It is situated just next to the zoo, parking is available for both bike and car, you just need to follow the brown Zoo signs which will help you to reach the parking.
  • Public Transport: Bus No.23 stops outside the zoo and you can get a bus in every 1 hour.
